Webinar - Washington Update – What We Know at This Time - for NAESCO Members Only
Monday, February 3, 2025 (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM) (EST)
Description
With the start of the Trump administration on January 20, they have hit the ground running, with many things being implemented all at once. In this webinar, we will review some of the announcements and Executive Orders, and how they might impact the ESCO Industry. While certainly, things are still in flux, we will have a discussion with our Lobbyist Team, Klien-Johnson, to help us get some perspective of what we see happening.
Speakers:
Timothy Unruh, Executive Director, National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO) and Klein-Johnson, NAESCO Lobbying Group
Matt Johnson, Co-founder of the Klein/Johnson Group
With over two decades of experience at the intersection of politics and policy, Matt’s deep relationships, legislative know-how, and reputation for honest, sound judgment make him a go-to for clients in turmoil and for those who want legislation that improves their bottom lines. Matt represents coalitions, start-ups, Fortune 100s, small businesses, nonprofits, and trade associations—and is known for developing and operationalizing winning strategies.
A native of Houston, Texas, Matt studied journalism at the Medill School at Northwestern University, where he first caught the political bug. Matt cut his teeth in Midwest battleground politics, working as a cub reporter before serving on statewide campaigns for U.S. Senate, Governor, and President.
Following law school at Notre Dame, Matt spent nearly a decade on Capitol Hill as a top policy aide and lawyer for Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX). Widely respected on both sides of the aisle, Matt developed and passed over 50 bipartisan bills in Congress.
Through his work as a senior principal at two of DC’s top integrated lobbying and communications firms, Matt understands modern issue advocacy campaigns—managing several integrated lobbying and communications client matters. Most recently, Matt led Podesta Group’s Tech Telecom & IP sector practice and represented more than a dozen of the world’s most innovative technology companies.
Kate Lynch, Principal
A trusted advisor to businesses, advocacy groups, coalitions, and Members of Congress, Kate has nearly two decades of experience securing Congressional and Executive Branch support for clients’ priorities.
Kate worked for three senior members of the New England Congressional delegation, including former Democratic Caucus Chair and current senior member of the House Ways & Means Committee, John Larson (D-CT). As one of Larson’s top legislative aides, Kate oversaw the Congressman’s work in energy, environmental, transportation, small business, and agriculture sectors. Prior to her time with Larson, Kate oversaw Congresswoman Niki Tsongas’ (D-MA) work on the House Natural Resources Committee, after working on her successful campaign to replace retiring Congressman Marty Meehan (D-MA). As an aide to Meehan, Kate first developed her expertise on energy and environmental issues.
In 2012, Kate transitioned into government affairs consulting and coalition management, at Cascade Associates where she oversaw congressional outreach, education, and lobbying efforts for clients, including the Federal Performance Contracting Coalition (FPCC).
Kelli Briggs, Principal
With nearly two decades of public and private sector experience, Kelli offers valuable strategic and policy engagement for a range of clients, and is known for a consensus-driven, results-oriented approach to getting things done. She combines that style with strong House Leadership connections, relationships on both sides of the aisle and Capitol, as well as industry stakeholders.
Kelli spent twelve years on Capitol Hill serving as the Chief of Staff to Congressman Patrick J. Tiberi (R-OH), a longtime member of the House Ways and Means Committee and Chairman of the tax, trade, and health subcommittees, as well as the Joint Economic Committee. In 2018, after more than a decade on Capitol Hill, she began working in the private sector as a government affairs consultant advising and advocating on behalf of various Fortune 200 companies, trade associations and coalitions on a range of issues including tax and trade policy.
