Repairing existing duct work is rarely included in energy retrofit projects for existing buildings due to the complexities and cost of gaining access to the ducts, locating the leaks, and completing the repairs. A case study of duct sealing successfully completed in a Federal Bureau of Prisons high rise detention center using Aeroseal's automated duct sealing technology that seals from the inside of the ducts will be presented. The unique challenges posed by doing an energy retrofit in a tightly controlled environment, savings achieved, and lessons learned will be presented.
