Energy Systems Group (ESG)
Boone County was in need of many energy efficiency and resiliency upgrades across government buildings in their county. In order to assist Boone County in these upgrades Energy Systems Group collaborated with Boone County to meet their needs through 3 key phases of work spanning over a decade’s time.
SOLUTIONS
In ESG’s first phase of work with the county focused on improvements to the courthouse and annex facility. Upgrades were focused around heating, ventilation, and air conditioning upgrades. The second phase of work centered around various improvements to the county’s jail from improved lighting to an upgraded water system. The last phase of work involved improvements to the Boone County Courthouse and the recently acquired KeyBank Building.
Phase 1
• Upgrades to lighting, heating, and cooling systems at the County
Courthouse and Annex building
Phase 2
• Lighting improvements
• Installation of a geothermal well system
• Domestic hot water system improvements
• Building automation system upgrade
• Solar ultra-violet (UV) domestic hot water heating
• Installation of solar panels to provide an average of 200,000 British Thermal Units per hour (BTUH) to the domestic hot water system

• Lighting and HVAC improvements
• Boiler & heating hot water system improvements; chilled water system upgrades
• DDC controls improvements
• Building envelope improvements
• Security and IT upgrades
RESULTS
The three phases of work have saved Boone County over $8.5 million.
