Webinar - Phase Change Materials for Decarbonization

Webinar - Phase Change Materials for Decarbonization

Monday, July 29, 2024 (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Phase Change Materials (PCM) have been used in various applications for decades. Cold transportation, ice storage, and greenhouses are three applications that utilize the physical laws of phase change: materials absorb and release heat energy WITHOUT changing temperature. Additionally, they add thermal mass to buildings to reduce temperature drift, improving comfort.

PCMs are now available in any temperature from -75C to 175C, with multiple applications available for decarbonization in buildings that utilize HVAC. PCMs are added to ceiling tiles, blankets, panels, bottles, and racks to reduce HVAC consumption by 15-40%, depending on the application.

Presenter

Raymond Crespo, Director of Strategic Accounts, PSG Energy Services, LLC

Learning Objectives

  1. How to identify opportunities for PCM/ Thermal Storage projects
  2. Thermal mass improvements and PCM / Thermal Storage
  3. How to present PCM / Thermal Storage to end users
  4. Why PCM / Thermal Storage will provide resilience to existing building stock
  5. Financial impacts of several applications of PCM / Thermal Storage
  • ROI Driven: Ceiling Tiles, Thermal Blankets in Ceilings, Demand Response using Thermal Storage Based Load Shifting
  • Resilience Driven: HVAC Emergency Back-Up, Improved Thermal Mass for climate or operational reasons
